Willie and Engagement Pictures

Steve and I went to see Willie Nelson at the Tabernacle Thursday night at the Tabernacle. It was actually the first “real” concert we had ever attended together. We arrived before the doors opens, thus we were able to get in the second standing row. Willie took stage around 8:10 and played for an hour and half. He played many of his classics, but must have been in a Hank Williams mood, because he also played many of his songs. It got really crowded and hot, especially as the inebriated people began to move closer to the front. I finally got the bottle of Dasani I was dieing for, for $3.00, and I thought water was a natural resource. Well would have paid $20 at the time. I was glad to get to bed at midnight, which I thought was reasonably early for the occasion.

Today we had our engagement pictures take. We were hoping to have them made on the river, but the rain forced us into the studio. I think there should be some really good and unique shots. I should get the cd of pictures later this week. They will also be placed on Pictage. I will list the username and password so all can view.

Oh today is also the one year anniversary of our engagement. It seems hard to believe that has been that long and we only have 3 months before the wedding!

Wow! The Georgia Aquarium Rocks!

Steve and I spend the day at the Georgia Aquarium as a celebration of Valentines Day. (I got an MP3 player and Steve got 2 shirts, a hat, colone and fudge) It is a definite must see for anyone in the area. We are so disappointed that we did not get season passes and they are no longer selling them. I can not describe how amazing it was.

The design and layout of the place was ingenious. There are five galleries linked together with a sitting and dinning area. You are free to go into any of the areas at your leisure. There are also many areas designed to “pet” the fish and other aquatic life. On of the best parts was the large “window” into the ocean tank. This should be something similar to what we would see when/if we scuba dive in Belize in June.

This is one of the bulga whales. We were viewing from the second level and this photo gives a nice idea of the size of the whales and the size of the windows.

The Tropical Diver tanks need cleaning daily.

Saturday night Steve and I attended a surprise birthday party for one his best friend and former roommate, David. Steve really had lots of fun hanging out with his high school friends. He even surprised me by showing the group his buck dancing skills (he had not told me about his skills and awards won until last week). It was entertaining, but we stayed out way past my bedtime

I have spent some time this weekend registering for wedding gifts at Target and Belk. It was fun to register for all the things that I thought we could use. It was really time consuming and difficult to make sure we got everything we need and did not register for duplicates. I still have some modifications to make in the next few weeks. I never realized how crazy this wedding planning is. Just when I think I am ahead and have a handle on it, I find out how much more we have to do.

More pictures (hopefully) to follow.

JEEP SLEDDING

Here are the first pictures of the upcome sports rage! I had lots of fun sledding 3 miles or so for about and hour, but wow am I sore today!
Attention students:
Don't try this at home. It is not safe.
(but yes it was loads of fun)

On Sunday the snow continued. There was not much in Frogtown or Murrayville,
so we went north again.

We thought about going skiing in Maggie Valley, but did not leave in enough time to make it up there due to road conditions. We had breakfast at Ma Gooches, a great southern breakfast, but not as good as the Wagon Wheel in Dahlonega. The then headed toward Suches, a small town in Union County. We went towards Wolf Pen Gap then took a Forest Service road over Duncan Ridge to end up at Coopers Creek. The road had only been traveled by a few people that day and we only met 5 or 6 cars on the 15 mile road. I think we created a new Olympic sport along the way – “Jeep Sledding”.

Saturday across North Georgia

Our Saturday morning began with a stop in Helen then we went up by Lake Burton, and across the mountain toward Hiawasse. Along that road we stopped to play on top of a hill.

Opps she fell off again

Steve throwing a snowball at the camera.

My grandmother told me the "true" story behind this sign. There was a Cherokee Indian princess that disappears and was never found. Her name was "Fallen Rock". There are still many signs in the mountians hunting for her today. Maybe Steve and I can make it our goal in life to find her.

Last Monday

These are pictures from Blood Mountain Last Monday. Steve could not go with me due to work so I had to write him a message.

SNOW!!!

Well we did not have a large amount of snow here in Frogtown or Murrayville, but Steve and I hunted and found snow all weekend. Yesterday we went to Rabun, Towns, and Union counties, just north of us, and today we went to the large historic town of Suches, GA in Union County. We had a blast all weekend. I will post pictures of snow fight, sleding and the new sport of "jeep sleding" as soon as I get the laptop hooked up to DLS (dial-up really stinks)!

No Snow for Dahlonega

Well we rode four wheelers on Saturday with my uncle. It was really cold and fun. We rode along the old railroad tracks that lead from the Copper Mine area in Lumpkin County. Monday Steve, my students and myself were so excited about snow, yet we were highly disappointed. We only had snowflakes and I had to drive to Blood Mountain to find “real” snow. We are hoping for snow this weekend, but I am not getting my hopes too high.

A Week of Art
This was written and should have been posted on Saturday. (Sorry for the delay)

Steve and I have had the pleasure of attending 3 art reception in as many evenings. Thursday we attended the North Georgia College & State University’s reception for the Art Educators exhibit. An 8th grade student and I both had art on exhibit. Friday we went to Emory’s educators evening in the Carlos Museum. This was the first time Steve had been to Emory and saw their ancient art collection and it was a nice refresher for me. We had planned to eat dinner at Everybody’s Pizza, but the refreshments at the gallery were so good, we were not hungry afterward. We did make a stop at the Dekalb Farmers Market for Basmati rice and other spices.
Saturday we went to the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve. We were both a bit disappointed. It was too cold for some of the animals to come out of their shelters. I was also upset to find out that it is not longer a place for rescued animals, but instead they are breeding animals. The animals there seemed very well fed and healthy, but I thought more could have been done to approve their habitat. Last night we went to Molly’s art reception (the 4th grade student that is going to have surgery next week). It was really cool for such a young child to have her very own solo art show. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. See her website for additional information about her.Today is really cold and we are hoping for snow. Steve is tuning up the four-wheelers and we are going riding after church today and maybe (with my fingers crossed) tomorrow in the snow!
