Finding Shrooms at the Briar Patch

With all the recent rains Steve began to find chanterelles in the woods. He cooks them up like any other mushroom.
He really likes them, but I feel they are have too much of a "meaty" texture.

We gathered lots on our adventure at the Briar Patch, behind Ted's house.

The view from Ted's deck.

Sometime the road splits and you have to chose which path to take.

Wild chanterelles

Kelly even got to ride the 4-wheeler for a bit.

I love the woods.

I hope these are the right ones to eat.

Smile a bit Steve!

August 2009

I am still slacking on my posting. I thought I would have tons of free time after college was over, but I still am no seeing that time. August was a busy month due to school starting back. I always enjoy school starting back, but it is always intense and very time consuming!

Steve found Rasco, the black snake, when leaving the driveway. He almost got ran over (maybe because Steve was driving too fast around the corner...), but instead Steve got out to play with him. Rasco finally got annoyed and slithered away!

Steve's parents had baby raccoons that came to their bird feeder daily for a week. First there was three, then two, then none...

Just tilt your head and you will see that Fish love it when the pool is open!

Every time we go to the river Lacy dog in Frogtown always have to ride down with us. I really think Steve and I are her favorite toys, I meant favorite people!

I canned salsa for the first time. Our parents had extra tomatoes and peppers in their garden, so I thought I would do a bit of experimenting. I have not tried the salsa yet, but if it is good, I plan on becoming a gardening and canning maniac next summer.

Lots of salsa!

Warming the cans!

Catfish needs a nap after playing ball.

Fish and I made a stop at Mountain Crossing.

...and in color...

I love "fair food". The fried pickles were ok, but you could not eat many of them. They were pretty greasy!

AMAZING sushi, courtesy of "Ted's Mountain Grill."

Steve's dad came to school to check out our rooms, before the first day of school. I got is stamp of approval. He also got to meet Jewel, our school therapy dog. When I grow up, I am going to have a job that lets me bring my dog with me.

Lacy and Cameron enjoyed a Jeep ride in the driveway.

We have also been cooking more at home since school has begun.
I was delight to find GA and Fl wild-caught shrimp at Kroger!

The children were happy to see us when we returned home from the keys.

Cameron is ONE!!!!!

Lets go play...

On our annual copper head hunt (camera only hunt) we did not see any snakes, but a few frogs and crayfish crossing the forestry roads.

Kelly and Catfish at the "Right to Hike" walk in Blairsville. Fish and I spent the morning with our friend Tina and loved it!

I have also enjoyed growing herbs this summer. I had some great cilantro earlier in the summer, my basil has gone crazy and I just planted mint today. Steve has a new found love ... ebay! He has sold some random junk we have around the house, my old text books, and has even threatened to action off the dogs and I.
